WORKSHOP APPROACH
We believe you must first understand basic Storytelling principles before making any acting choices within your work. Understanding these principals include: the concept/theme/genre, the author’s intent, the purpose of the character, the purpose of each scene, and the relationship status. Your goal for acting is to “not act”, but trust your natural instincts; keeping your performance real and genuine by bringing the essence of who you are to each role. In our ongoing workshops, we will often throw you “into the fire” with guidance in order to prepare you for the pressure that often comes with being on set. This approach helps you to make strong decisions, quickly. The art of Improv is often used for exercise and warm-up. We also use the Dalton's Somatic Memorization Technique TM which conditions your mind to absorb the concept and words in a short time. Most importantly, we encourage a fun and adventurous attitude when we work.
ESSENCE TRAINING
Master Level students are given a comprehensive Essence Survey that helps determine their Casting Profile, which allows them them to understand and utilize their greatest personal attributes. Essence Training teaches the actor how to bring their strengths to each role and make their performances natural.
AUDITION, TELEPROMPTER AND COLD READ COACHING
Our audition coaching is known throughout the Colorado Region as the best. You can be the most brilliant actor in the class, but if you can't book the job, what's the point? Coaches and Casting Directors, David Dalton and Chad Schnackel, teach you the real world skills needed to book the job and keep working!

Description: The emphasis is on Essence Training, career guidance, and bringing the essence of who you are to every role. SMT script drills are done often. This series also includes: using relationship behavior study, body language and flirting, and human motivation factors in scene study. A "Guerrilla Shoot" every other month.

ONGOING WORKSHOP SERIES
SOMATIC MEMORIZATION TECHNIQUE TM
S.M.T. has become one of our most important and popular teaching tools. Our students begin learning this trademark technique in the Indoctrination Series. Created and developed by David Dalton, Somatic Memorization Technique conditions the actor to learn their lines faster than the average actor while comprehending the context of the scene. S.M.T. is guaranteed to improve your cold read skills, develop your acting instincts, and increase your confidence in auditions.
DS StudioWorks is the only acting studio that teaches this technique and is currently in pre-production for the S.M.T. Instructional Video, so any actor can learn how to train their brain and body to absorb the script as fast as possible.
Our Master Level Students are able to memorize a 3-6 page script in 30 minutes and perform off-book with smart choices made. S.M.T. when performed properly with every script you are assigned will allow you to accelerate and enhance any acting method or technique you already study.
